Talking roses with Tamara Taggart

Shot last summer, you can still view Brad and Tamara Taggart's rose chat online at Way to Grow with Tamara . This season, look for Brad's new favourites for beauty and reliability!

  • Easy Does It - The best new rose of the year, as judged by All-America Rose Selections. Frilly peach blooms are produced in masses all season long.
  • Living Easy (also called 'Fellowship') - This has to be the most reliable, free-blooming Floribundas we grow! The color is brilliant shades of orange and yellow, always pure and fresh , never harsh.
  • Easy Going - A golden yellow version of the rose 'Fellowship' aka 'Easy Living' rose. It's identical in every way to Fellowship, but has a soft, golden yellow flower.
  • Elina - One of the most beautiful roses we grow. The color is a soft, pleasing cream-yellow and changes slightly with the weather.
  • AC Navy Lady - Named as a dedication to the thousands of Canadian women who served in the Women s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS), known as Wrens, and the women who continue to serve today as members of the Canadian Navy.
  • ****Navy Lady is sold out for 2010****
  • Eliza - This remarkable new German Bred rose has proven to have outstanding resistance to disease, combined with a classic cutting style rose. She grows well branched with great vigour and is even fragrant! Lovely new addition to the no spray roses line up!
  • Vigorosa Roses - Kordes of Germany set out to breed roses that could be grown without sprays or toxic chemicals over 10 years ago. Some of their best and most vigorous landscape type roses are in this collection known as Vigorosa Roses. They come in an assortment of colours and grow from 1.5-3 feet. They are ideal for low maintenance landscape! Ask us about these roses.
  • Fairy Tale Roses - New from Germany This is another line of outstanding healthy roses bred from the Kordes, no-spray rose breeding program. Most have large old fashion type flowers and grow to about 3 feet tall and wide. They are wonderful easy care garden shrubs and can even be used as cut flow- ers! They come in a variety of colours.

Brad Jalbert's Select Roses

Select Roses is a farm-style nursery/greenhouse specializing in the hybridizing and growing of beautiful garden roses. Our nursery, located in South Langley, is as unique and special as the roses we sell. Being avid gardeners and rose growers, we pride ourselves in offering fellow gardeners the finest in selection and quality of rose bushes in Western Canada.

Select Roses is now growing many of our full-sized roses,
"own-root", right here on the farm!

Own-root roses: You asked for a bigger selection of non grafted style roses so we got busy planting up the fields! We are own-rooting Hybrid Teas, Floribundas , Climbers, Old Garden roses and many other shrubs that perform well when grown "own-root".

The condition and grade of our roses far exceeds anything we have expected. I'm sure you will be thrilled with the outstanding plant quality. We will be expanding our growing fields and selection each season.

Our complete selection of roses, including bushes sourced from other fine growers, is available from March of each year. We take pride in offering you the very best selection and quality of roses in Western Canada.

The difference is that we LOVE our roses!

Our field grower, Judy Cornelius, hand-cultivates, pinches, prunes and weeds each plant with great care. The soil is cared for with organic methods, using aged manure and crop rotation practices. Judy does NOT use any chemical herbicides in the rose fields.

The result of this labour-intensive method of growing is rose bushes with excellent branching and a well developed root system bursting with vigour. Judy and I manage the crop together and take extreme pride in our roses.

Since we hand dig all the roses, the roots are not damaged by the typical machine harvest and pruning methods used by large field growers. We are confident that you will find all of our field-grown plants to be of superior quality.

All of our field roses are grown on their own roots!
