Select Roses is a farm-style nursery/greenhouse specializing in the hybridizing and growing of beautiful garden roses. Our nursery, located in South Langley, is as unique and special as the roses we sell. Being avid gardeners and rose growers, we pride ourselves in offering fellow gardeners the finest in selection and quality of rose bushes in Western Canada. Select Roses was established in 1990 on the same farm that Brad Jalbert was raised.

There isn't another nursery in Canada that does roses the way we do. It's our passion, our pride and our life!

Miniature and Patio Roses: thousands to choose from!

Our miniature and patio roses include selections from top breeders around the world and also include varieties hybridized by Brad Jalbert at Select Roses. They are grown and sold right from our greenhouses. You will find these gems of the rose world ready for new homes, from mid April until the end of our season.

Full-sized Garden Roses: an extensive selection of roses, from around the world!

Hybrid Teas, Floribunda, Antique Old Garden roses, Climbers, Ramblers, Ground Cover, Shrubs, David Austin English roses, and every other type of rose you could imagine!

We search the world over to bring you the finest selection and quality of roses on today's market. Our roses are custom grown on our farm, and also imported from the UK, Europe, and the USA.

We have an extensive display garden including over 800 roses planted for your pleasure. You'll find many different types of roses, from the latest modern Hybrids, to Antique Old Garden roses dating back centuries. Since we enjoy gardening, there is also a outstanding collection of shrubs, rhodos, azaleas and perennials to see. The roses are at peak bloom around late June to early July. They love visitors!! ( Most of the container roses are sold out by this time, so shop early for them, and make some notes for your next seasons choices)

The Hybridizing Program: Brad's Favourite Part of the Job!

I have been hybridizing roses since the very early beginnings of Select roses in 1990 and continue to find it one of the great pleasures of my life and rose business.

My breeding work is very simple. I listen to my heart, my rose friends and try to breed roses that people will enjoy and can grow easily! Each summer I make hundreds of crosses resulting in about 3000 seedlings. Rose seedlings can be difficult to germinate and it's not unusual to have less than 50% germinate. The baby roses bloom during the first season and are quickly weeded out if they show signs of disease or other undesirable characteristics.

Out of 3000 seedlings the first year, only the most promising 100 or so will be kept for further consideration. The top 100 seedlings are submitted to a 2nd year of testing and subjected to constant evaluation. Over the next few years these roses will go through a selection process based on their uniqueness and other attributes that will make them a suitable introduction to the market.

Select Roses is pleased to introduce, after 5 years of rigorous scrutiny, perhaps 3 out of the original 3000 to the world rose market.

We pride ourselves in introducing only those varieties that shown superior performance and features that will make them a pleasure for home gardeners to grow. Select Roses, although a small company in the world or rose breeding, has introduced some of the most unique roses on the market today.

Our roses have received high praise in gardens all across Canada and the USA. I'm very honored to have my creations grown and enjoyed by gardeners all across Canada and I look forward to developing more interesting and beautiful roses for you to enjoy!

The Staff: We are a tiny but tough group!!

MomLori Jalbert
Lori is my mother and my resident expert on everything. She is always willing to tell Dad and I when things need to be done on the farm!. She is also willing to do most jobs at the nursery and works hard to keep our roses in the excellent condition that you are accustomed to. Mom has extensive knowledge in floral design and colour selection. Mom is always ready to help you pick out a nice rose collection.

Denny Jalbert
DadDenny is my father and is always quick to remind me that he doesn't work for his son, but since he knows best, he's always there to lend a hand (wink). Dad takes care of all the buildings and general operations on our farm. He also makes some incredible wood arbors and trellises for our gardening friends. His workman ship is first-rate!

JudyJudy Cornelius
What would I do without Judy?! Each spring Judy comes to us with boundless energy and does just about everything that needs to be done at Select Roses. She is an accomplished gardener and propagator herself and keeps our display garden in fine shape. She is always happy to answer your rose growing questions or help you pick out the best rose for your garden. Judy now custom grows all of our own-root roses on her farm right next door to ours. The pride and care that she takes in her crop inspires me. We work together to bring our customers the very best roses in the world.

Randal Jalbert

My brother Randal is in the travel business but is also an experienced gardener. He gives us a hand on some busy spring weekends. Randal is the past president of our local garden club, and has learned a lot about rose growing over the years. He has a good eye for landscape design and if you're lucky to meet him on our spring weekends, you can talk travel and roses! Randal has also started to hybridize daylilies so if you fancy them come and see his latest collection of new hybrids!

Simone Carpenter
Three cheers for Simone! Always a joke and a smile and she gets the job done and does it well. Simone is focused on potting roses, cutting of faded blooms and helps to keep the display beds weed free and in tip top shape for our customers. She waters the roses, feeds the roses and does all those important things to keep them looking great. I'm blessed with having Simone here and the roses are equally blessed.

Daisy Howes
Everyone enjoys our tidy the garden and nursery is at Select Roses and Daisy is one of the main reasons. She spends her time here fluffing the rose beds, weeding, fertilizing and some how manages to shuffle the pots and make them look far more organized that I can!

The customer: Psst... That would be you!

Without you there would be no Select Roses. We are dedicated to growing the very best roses we can and will do out best in helping you grow wonderful roses ! We consider our customers to be gardening friends and we are always happy to see you, share in the ups and downs of rose growing. Feel free to visit the nursery, walk through the greenhouses or display garden at your leisure. Things can be pretty crazy in the spring, but we make time to take care of you, and hope that you will take time to smell the roses!

To our loyal rose friends over the years, thank you, thank you, thank you! Each and every one of you that comes back to Select Roses, inspires me to grow, develope, hybridize, expand the garden and to smell the roses. For all your kind words and praise of our roses, I extend to you my most humble thanks.

Sincerely,
Brad Jalbert
