Our Roses: Miniature & Patio Roses

Miniature and patio roses are versatile garden plants that have all the qualities of large roses, reduced to smaller proportions. Despite their delicate appearance, they actually withstand cold temperatures better than most large roses. They can be grown in any climate across Canada with appropriate winter protection in colder regions. With the vast selection available, one can find a mini-rose to suit almost any situation. Growing conditions are similar to most other plants: reasonable soil, water and sunshine. If a miniature rose is on the large size, it's referred to as a Patio Rose or the new classification is "Mini-flora". None of that really matters - just find some colours you like and enjoy these gems of the rose family.

Our miniature roses are all grown on their own roots.

When you visit the nursery, you can also select from a vast selection of plants in pot sizes ranging from 4 inch and 1 gallon to larger decorative patio pots. They are usually in full bloom starting at the end of April onwards.

The quality of plant that we sell from the farm is considered by many to be the highest in the industry.

Here is just a sample of what this group of roses has to offer. Many more are available from our nursery.

Auntie LouiseAuntie Louise
What a wonderful, tough little rose. The flowers are fully double with a soft orange to golden yellow shade. Like many rose blends, the colour changes with the weather, soil and mood of the plant. This rose has a tidy and compact habit, branches freely, and is very winter-hardy. Excellent repeat blooming habit, great colour and blooms her fool head off (wink). Named in honour of my unsinkable Auntie Louise for her 75th Birthday! Highly recommended for both the beginner and expert gardener.

Graduation Day

One of the most highly regarded patio roses I have hybridized. Graduation day has a full rounded flower packed with petals just like the David Austin English style roses. The flower is a rich apricot to pink and cover the plant in bloom all summer long. Everyone will appreciate the healthy ultra glossy foliage of grad day. This is one pretty looking plant! Grad day is an extremley winter hardy rose, making her ideal for containers or gardens. There is a light clean fresh scent to her flowers. She is a self cleaning little rose, shedding her petals after the flowers are done! How civilized, wink wink.

ExhibitionistExhibitionist!
Wow!! Now, this has to be the most perfectly formed mauve rose on the market today. The deep mauve flowers hold their colour and shape well in all weather. If you like a rose that "looks like a rose" this mauve is the one for you. Exhibitors will be pleased with the amount of petals and outstanding form. A flawless cut flower that is sure to be the delight of every gardener. The plant itself is very vigorous, producing single stems and nice sprays of roses all summer long. Foliage is mid glossy green and abundant. As with all mauve roses, winter protection is advised if you are living in chilly winter areas. I'm very excited to see how my new baby will perform on the show tables in Canada and other countries. Fragrance! Well okay, not much, but we can't have everything! She is just so pretty to look at (wink).

Green Ice

Green Ice
Unbeatable in hanging baskets where its graceful arching habit and incredible bloom production are best appreciated. Blooms are very double, much like Old Garden Roses and fade from rich cream to an unusual light green. A superior landscape variety. Iron-clad winter hardiness. I have 4 plants of this rose tumbling over large rocks in my garden and I'm so impressed with the amount of bloom and ease of care. Highly recommended.

Red Patio Wonder Red Patio Wonder
This little beauty has huge double flowers much like the old-fashioned style roses borne on a sturdy, compact bush. The flowers are very long-lasting and weather resistant, making them useful as a cut flower. The tidy plant is ideal for a containers, very easy to grow, and reaches about 14 inches tall and 12 inches wide. The colour is a clean and pure crimson red shade and never fades in the sun. As red as they come! Light fresh scent, almost fruity.

The Colour Purple The Colour Purple
Holy doodles folks!! You asked for a purple mini and oh my lucky stars, I was blessed with the most perfect little one from the year 2000 seedling crop. This is the deepest, richest, purple mini-rose I have yet to see. It's actually almost shocking in colour and a real gem to have in your collection. Like most in this colour-class it performs best in cooler areas out of the burning sunshine. The hot sunrays tend to burn the edges of the very dark roses so choose your location with care. The plant itself is very blooming, upright-growing to about 14 inches tall, and has nice deep glossy green foliage. My suggestion would be to give this one a very special place in the garden or grow it in a large container so you can move it around . My baby does well under glass and is a real treat for the hobby greenhouse grower. Along with the breathtaking colour comes a sweet lemon fragrance that makes The Colour Purple an absolute must for every rose lover.

Year 2000Year 2000
This is the most striking rose we have bred to date! The colour is a bright yellow blending to an intense fiery red at the petal's edge. As the weather heats up and the blooms age, the red shade starts to blend inwards until the most of the mature blooms are fully red. The flowers are very long-lasting and have the perfect hybrid tea form. They are unaffected by wet weather and hold the bud stage for many days. Foliage is dark glossy green and large. The plant grows upright to about 16 inches tall. It's very early to bloom and winter-hardy. If you like hot colours, this is the rose for you! Difficult for us to propagate so always in short supply.
