Developed in England by David Austin, this group of roses resembles the old-fashioned type but have some characteristics of modern roses. Most repeat bloom and many have unusual rose perfumes. They are shrubbier in habit when compared to hybrid tea roses. Some of the larger growers make breathtaking climbers for small fences or pillars. They come in an endless supply of colours and flower shapes. Many are winter hardy and well suited for our coastal climate. Most can be pruned lower or allowed to grow into larger shrubs.
