Miniature and patio roses are versatile garden plants that have all the qualities of large roses, reduced to smaller proportions. Despite their delicate appearance, they actually withstand cold temperatures better than most large roses. They can be grown in any climate across Canada with appropriate winter protection in colder regions. With the vast selection available, one can find a mini rose to suit almost any situation. If a miniature rose is on the large size, it's referred to as a "patio rose" or "Mini-flora". None of that really matters - just find some colours you like and enjoy these gems of the rose family.

Our miniature roses are all grown on their own roots. When you visit the nursery, you can choose from a vast selection of plants in pot sizes ranging from six-inch and one-gallon to larger decorative patio pots. They usually bloom from the end of April on. The quality of plant that we sell from the farm is considered by many to be the highest in the industry.

A rare new class of roses! Larger in flower and foliage than climbing minis, but not as big as full-sized climbers. Lesley-Anne has clear scarlet red flowers, beautiful in bud and when open. Ideal for those whose gardens are tight on space, but who still want well-behaved climber for large containers or open settings. The roses are born in clusters or on single stems from late spring until frost, and are very tolerant of rain and poor weather. Named for a good friend, prominent Vancouver rosarian, and the co-chair of the 2009 World Rose Festival. Lesley requested a rose that lasted and held its colour when cut; this beauty does that and more.
Paula Smart - Biltmore Collection

Gold-dusted velvet red! This mini's golden reverse can change in intensity depending on the weather. Classic tea rose, exhibition-quality, blooms are borne in clusters throughout the season. Love the colour and form! It also has stunning high gloss foliage, having been bred out of Lasting Love. This highly polished foliage looks too good to be real! Excellent mini-flora for cutting. A most attractive colour combination. Named for a prominent American rosarian.
Cheeky Monkey

Another crowd favourite, and a rose that is very dear to me. This little rose can produced hundreds of flowers in one season. The double roses open to reveal golden stamens giving it that cute, cheeky look to the plant. It grows dense and bushy, with superb, glossy foliage. One plant can easily fill out a nice size pot. Plant a few as a low flowering hedge. Grows to about 14 inches tall and wide. I love this little rose, and named it in memory of someone I was close to.
Exhibitionist

Wow! This has to be the most perfectly-formed mauve rose on the market today. The deep mauve flowers hold their colour and shape well in all weather. Rose exhibitors will be pleased with the amount of petals and outstanding form. A flawless cut-flower that is sure delight every gardener. The plant is very vigorous, producing single stems and sprays of roses all summer long. Foliage is glossy mid-green and abundant. As with all mauve roses, winter protection is advised if you are living in chilly winter areas. The outer petals can be brushed with a cherry colour in cool weather. Fragrance! Well okay, not much, but we can't have everything! She is just so pretty to look at.
Graduation Day

One of the most highly regarded patio roses I have hybridized. Graduation Day has a full, rounded flower packed with petals just like David Austin English roses. The flowers are rich apricot to pink, and they cover the plant with blooms all summer long. Everyone will appreciate its healthy, ultra-glossy foliage. This is one pretty plant, and is winter-hardy, making her ideal for containers. There is a light clean fresh scent to her flowers. She is a self-cleaning little rose, shedding her petals after flowers are done--how civilized! Can grow very large for a patio rose in some climates. I have seen plants larger than two feet tall and wide.
Nan McKibben

A brilliant yellow mini-flora of mine that has a slightly greenish hue to the buds. I love its flower form and colour, especially when combined with its rich, glossy green foliage. Nan is a nice rose for cutting as she produces many single stem roses. Grows to about 24 inches tall. She can, at times, have a delicious licorice scent to the flowers. This is sunshine on a plant!
Sandalwood

There is something to be said being unique in your class, and Sandalwood defines "unique." The flowers are large for the small, compact plant, and they are beautifully formed at all stages. The colour? Nothing--and I mean nothing--comes close to this russet terracotta with hints of mauve. This rare little gem makes you work for those flowers and thrives on good culture. She is not a fan of cold winters or long wet ones, but makes no excuses as her beauty and rarity are worth it. A rose for collectors and people who enjoy gardening. Someone once asked me what to do about their Sandalwood dying every second year. I said, "That’s easy! Buy another one!" It’s about the same price as a cup of coffee and a muffin; how long do they last? Sandalwood is worth the trouble!
Vučko Simic

This mini flora has perfectly formed, exhibition-quality flowers. The colour blend is simply beautiful, with slight variations that resemble a sunset. This plant appreciates good culture. Vučko Simic (pronounced "vuchko") is named for a local rosarian's Serbian-Canadian nephew. Vučko in the Serbian language means "wolf," a name traditionally given to children who were not healthy or were not expected to live long; being connected with wolf was said to help them be strong and grow old.
Water Lily

I get more positive feedback on this patio rose than any other small rose I've bred. Water Lilly has a flawless porcelain-cream complexion, and bears blooms on large, strong, upright trusses. This is one of those beautiful classics that has, and will stand the test of time. We grow it own-root on the farm but also buy in some budded stock as we find it makes a slightly larger plant when grafted to a hardy wild rose understock. Healthy and robust--everything a good rose should be! There is even a sweet clean rose perfume.
Coral Reef

Coral Reef is the most heavily mossed miniature rose in the world. Moss minis were first created by Ralph Moore, USA's father of the modern miniature rose. I met him years ago, and he encouraged me to breed unique and interesting best-in-class roses. I did some work with his moss mini roseses and came up with this baby. It is very heavily mossed, and in fact, has more moss than most of its old-rose ancesetors in the moss rose family. It has a frilly old-fashioned style flower in rich coral pink. The flower is 100% rain proof. Wonderful collector's rose, growing to about 12 to 14 inches with one inch flowers.
Auntie Louise

What a tough little rose! The flowers are fully double with a soft orange to golden yellow shade. Like many blends, the colour changes with the weather, soil and mood of the plant. This rose has a tidy and compact habit, branches freely, and is very winter-hardy. Excellent repeat blooming habit, great colour and blooms her fool head off! Named in honour of my unsinkable Auntie Louise for her 75th birthday. Highly recommended for both the beginner and expert gardener. Grows to about 14 inches with one inch flowers. Excellent for containers!
Southern Peach - Biltmore Collection

A miniature rose, perfect in foliage and plant habit thanks to its parent 'Lasting Love'. Every rose I have bred from 'Lasting Love' seems to have inherited her lustrous glossy foliage and dense, tidy plant habit. The flowers are typical mini size, but the plant is extremely robust growing. You will enjoy countless roses born in heavy waves all summer long. Colour varies between shimmering deep golden yellow, to a buff peach. Foliage is always dense, ultra glossy green and healthy. This rose possess all the qualities I could ever ask for in a true miniature rose.
